Winter Red, White & Blue

Winter Red, White & Blue

blog

Typically, when I think of Red, White & Blue, I think 4th of July. But I like this color combo way too much to limit it to just one holiday. So for today I’m doing it “winter style”. A plaid shirt in these infamous colors, a cream winter vest, comfy jeans, and cream Sperry’s. Throw on a few pieces of jewelry and a cute blue toned purse. …Just talking about red, white and blue is making me look forward to fireworks, snow cones and a good tan.

Snowed In Part 2

Snowed In Part 2

Yes,….we are still snowed in. Two days of staying home, I have exhausted Pintrest and Corey has shoveled our entire driveway and front and back porch.

On a more positive note….last night we had two new experiences. One, SNOW ICE CREAM. Yum, I’ve heard of this stuff but we’ve never tried it out. Just another reason to look forward to snow from now on.

snow ice cream

The recipe we used was only 3 ingredients.

1 can sweet and condensed milk
1 1/2 tsp Vanilla Extract
4 to 5 Cups of Snow
Mix milk and vanilla together, then stir in snow. Wa-La!

This stuff is good. Next time it snows, try it out. If you like ice cream and snow cones…this is a good mix.

Our next “first” was a surprise from Blakely. She and Bostyn have been playing with a walker that they got for Christmas for a few months, they can walk with it if you hold onto them or the walker. If not, they go way to fast and fall immediately. Before bed last night, Blakely decided to walk right to daddy and I, full speed ahead, holding onto the walker. Wow! So cool. We were so proud of her, she could tell and squealed with delight. After several goes at it. We put Bostyn down. Not to be outdone, she hoped right up and walked just like sissy. It was such a wonderful blessing for Corey and I to watch together as our little babies turned into toddlers.

Had to share these videos. Sorry for the bad lighting and pjs. We were not expecting a photo op.

Snowed In

Snowed In

19″ of SNOW!

Wow, what a crazy snow we had. Started last night at about 6pm. It was pretty much a blizzard….crazy wind and blowing snow. Once the wind stopped blowing and the snow stopped, we were left with drifts as high as are fence in some spots. GEE!

SONY DSC SONY DSC

Needless to say. We stayed home today…including Corey. Which is a big deal. He usually never misses a day at the office. But with the National Weather Service strongly advising everyone to say off the roads, most of the roads being closed, and the Dept. of Transportation even calling it a snow day…he decided to work from home. YAY! It was nice to have him home, and I know the girls enjoyed it. We stayed in our PJs all day! Not very often do we do that. I’m the type to get up and ready…(hair, makeup and clothes) before the girls get up, and have them dressed and ready for the day quickly after they get up and eat. We are go-go type of girls, so I think they were a little confused.

None the less…it was a great day. Felt good to just be a family…stuck in the house…loving each other!

bossblake

Because we were trapped inside all day. A lot happened…too much for one blog. So….tomorrow I’ll up date you on the fun we had…including SNOW ICE CREAM and 1st steps from Bostyn and Blakely. (with a baby walker…but still, big moment) We are proud parents tonight.

What a wonderful life we have been given. I am so thankful that God has blessed my life with a sweet hubby and happy little babes. I will never regret the time that I have chosen to spend with these loves. Priceless- No amount of money or success could replace the smiles, cuddles, kisses and shared pride and love my little family has given me.

Completely satisfied.

Spring is in the Air

SONY DSC

It has been sooo cold lately. Windy, wet, bitter COLD. But for some reason spring colors are jumping out of my closet right onto my body….well, I may be exaggerating just a bit. I guess it’s just my wishful thinking hoping for warmer weather. Today is a pink and white kind of day…cute, but I froze literally like all day. Come on heat,….I’m ready for you.

Lets Bake A Cake

Lets Bake A Cake

With the girls birthday just around the corner…(literally, like 3 weeks! EECK!), I have been practicing up on my baking skills. Well, not actually baking skills, but more like- cake decorating skills. I found a cake online that I love and thought about taking the picture to my favorite bakery to have them make it. Then, the idea hit me,…  “hey, I could make that”.  After all, as a child my mom made all of our cakes for birthday parties, and they were AWESOME. So instead of waiting to try it out on the “real” cake. I have made a couple…just to practice(and enjoy after). My first attempt was for Valentines Day….a Chevron, pink and white loooove cake. 3 layered strawberry cake with vanilla icing- YUM!

SONY DSC SONY DSC SONY DSC

My second attempt was a 4 layered yellow and chocolate cake with mocha, chocolate buttercream and pastel chevron fondant…(for upcoming Easter). It looks a little more put together.  I used a quilting grid to get more exact lines and angels.

SONY DSC SONY DSC

Next on the list is the girls 1st Birthday cake. I’m excited! I hope it turns out as good as the picture. If not, there’s always Wal-Mart.(and the girls really don’t care what it looks like anyway)

Tuscany

Tuscany

SONY DSC SONY DSC SONY DSC

I’m not really sure why I am referring to this post as “Tuscany” other than the colors kind of remind me of Tuscan colors….terracotta pots and the sorts. Anyway,  in my last post I mentioned that there were not many prints I liked more than polka dots…well, Chevron is one of them. I just love it! It’s easy to were and fun. While talking with my dear husband about this hip fashion print…he informed me that Chevron is a gas station and what I was referring to is really just a zig zag! HA- hmmm….. I guess he’s right. But either way, today I am dedicating to CHEVRON (zig zag whatever).

Polka Dots

If there is one fashion trend I’m LOVIN right now…it’s POLKA DOTS. It’s even just fun saying it. They are everywhere and today they were on me. This sweater is super comfy and soft, and the colors are right up my alley. Mint and Navy,…YES PLEASE! Paired with skinny jeans, a mint collared shirt and a pair of flats…..a warm and comfy way to be stylish. A few pieces of fun jewelry add some flair. Other than Chevron…..these dots have got to be my new favorite pattern.

50 Shades of Pink…Awww…Coral

SONY DSC

It’s no surprise that coral is super hot right now. It’s everywhere and is definitely going to be all over spring fashion. I personally adore it….a shade of pink, how could you not?!

A sweet striped coral cardi with shoulder bow accents put together with a nude tank, turquoise skinnies and nude pumps= a great spring look. In Texas this is a perfect for spring….not just the colors, but also our weather. It’s usually COLD in the morning and HOT in the afternoon. So, start the day with a cardi and end it in a tank. Works for me. 🙂

Red & Leopard

Happy Valentines Day!

Red is a definite color of love….but it just seemed a little too safe this Valentines day….so I spiced it up a bit with what else but LEOPARD. Its a classic combo….red…black…white…leopard. It just seemed to feel like the right fit for a fun day of love.

I’m a fan of bold prints, I guess it’s just my personality. Some people questioned these pants when I got them….but I just love them and have already wore them several times. On top of being super cute…they are sooo comfy! Paired with a white button up, black vest, red blazer, I think this is just perfect. Keep it simple with black flats, and black and diamond jewels.

Valentines Meal for ….One

Valentines Meal for …..One

Nothing speak right to my heart more then a delicious meal….and dessert. This Valentines evening was a bit different than the ones Corey and I have spent together in the past. One, this was our first Valentines Day with the girls. It was so fun,…I know they have no idea at this point what Valentines Day even is,…but I think it’s just fun to start traditions for them. Secondly, Corey came home early not feeling good at all (a stomach bug or something). Anyway, he stayed in bed for a bit until the girls woke up from there nap, but didn’t really feel like eating the Valentines Day Dinner I had planned….bummer…but no worries here. We can have a day of love any day, and EVERY day for that matter.

My dear, sweet, sick, hubby didn’t disappoint despite his bug. He came home with a dozen roses, a box of chocolates and a super sweet card. And for Bossy and Blake….a sweet teddy bear and a 1st Valentines Day card.

He’s a keeper!

Although Corey was not up to dinner, I insisted on cooking it anyway (the girls and I enjoyed).

Menu:

Be My Valentine

Be My Valentine

SONY DSC

What a happy day! Corey had to leave early for a meeting out of town, so I didn’t get to spend much of the morning with him 🙁 But I did spend it with a little play time with the girls, and an 11 month/Valentine photo shoot. Geezzz…….these girls are tough. They will NOT sit still and most of my pics are of them reaching up for the camera. I’ve got lots of good shots of their hands. HA.

Anyway, our Grammie gave us the cutest leggings and bows for Valentines, but we didn’t have a shirt to go with them….so, I made one….well two actually. The tutorial is below. Super easy!

Here’s what you need:

A onesie or shirt

Steam A Seam

Fabric of your choice

A stencil or pattern

Scissors and Pen or Pencil

Iron and Ironing Board

SONY DSC

First, trace our pattern onto your Steam A Seam. (follow instructions on packaging). Next Cut out pattern with fabric attached to Steam A Seam. Then, Peel of backing and place fabric where you want it on onesie and iron.

SONY DSC SONY DSC SONY DSC

Additionally, you can sew around the edge of fabric if you want. I think it adds a little more finish to the project. I used white thread and a zig zag stich.

SONY DSC

And there you have it. I love making these easy onesies for the girls, especially for holidays. (I’ve done pumpkins for Halloween, Turkeys for thanksgiving and “Vote” shirts in support of the election)

The finished product=Cutie Little Valentines

Cupcake Lovin’

Cupcake Lovin’

For those of you who may not already know this. I am a sucker for anything sweet. In fact, I believe that until my tummy has had a little sweetness…this meal just isn’t over. I admit it, I may be alittle bit of a addict, ….cakes, cookies, pies, brownies, cupcakes, candy, ice cream….you name it, and I probably LOVE it. Makes it hard to stay in swim suit condition, but I will gladly give up all meals and everything health for a few sweet treats. This is the latest recipe that I tried out. Some of my tasters told me that they were “very rich” others simply adored them. Me….I ate 4 in one day…could’ve eaten more but I tried to keep a smidge of my self control.

So here they are…

Vanilla Bean Buttermilk Cupcakes with Nutella Buttercream

Need I say more, they were delish!

The recipe I used is from www.krissys-creations.com

Vanilla Bean Buttermilk Cupcakes

4 Eggs

1 tsp Pure Vanilla Bean Paste(or the seeds of 1 vanilla bean, or 2 tsp Pure Vanilla)

1 1/4 cups Buttermilk

3 cups Cake Flour

2 cups Sugar

3 1/2 tsp Baking Powder

1/2 tsp Salt

1 cup (2 sticks) Unsalted Butter, at room temp

Nutella Buttercream

1 1/2 cups (3 sticks) Unsalted (softened)

3 cup Confectioners Sugar

1/8 tsp Salt

2 tsp Pure Vanilla Extract

1 cup Nutella

To make cup cake, preheat oven to 350 and line 2-3 cupcake tins. I tried to use all the batter in two pans and some of my cupcakes were out of control big.

In a bowl, wisk together eggs, vanilla, and buttermilk. Set aside.

In a stand mixer combine cake flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Add the butter and beat until light and fluffy. Then slowly add egg mixture, and scrape down sides.

Once mixed, divide the batter evenly in baking cups, ONLY FILLING THE CUPS HALF WAY. I filled mine more and they cooked over the edge of pan.

Bake 25 minutes. Allow to cool  minutes and remove and place on cooling rack.

While the cupcakes are cooling, make the Nutella Buttercream. Cream butter in stand mixer fitted with wisk about 5 minutes. Add the confectioners sugar and  salt and mix gradually  increasing in speed. Add the vanilla and wisk until light and fluffy. When the buttercream is fluffy, add the Nutellla and wisk for about 5 minutes until it is well incorporated.

Frost as desired and enjoy.

I also embellished mine with chocolate heart since it is the season of LOVE after all.

Enjoy

Good Sunday Morning!

 Good Sunday Morning!

After 3 nights away from home….and our routine, we were all thankful to get home and TRY to get back to normal. We had so much fun visiting our Grammie and Paw Paw don’t get me wrong,….it’s just hard for these little girlies to sleep when there is just so much going on. I mean….they can’t miss a thing…even at 4am. So Corey and I were relieved for a few uninterrupted hours of sleep last night.

The girls woke up this morning in super moods, and I had some buttermilk and blueberries in the fridge I needed to use up…..so why not some Blueberry Buttermilk Muffins. And this is how it went….

Success! I think they enjoyed them. There faces say it all. No “Thanks” needed, these little blueberry faced grins are plenty enough. I am usually pretty cautious of what I feed the girls. (I’m not going to lie and say they have never tried a bite of my blizzard or Krispy Kreme) but on a day to day basis, they are eating homemade baby food and the sorts. This recipe had very little sugar so I felt pretty comfortable with the girls enjoying them. They gobbled them up.

A great morning…..turned into a great day…..a great night. My cup is full….so very blessed. We should all count our blessings, the small thing, the simple things, the time spent together is what matters the most. I hope that my husband and girls will always be able to tell the depth of my love….not by what I can buy them, but by the time I CHOOSE to spend with them.

AWWWW……….

A little Organization

A little Organization

With spring right around the corner, cleaning has been on my mind…..well who am I kidding! Cleaning is maybe on my mind but not something I’m probably not going to jump up and start cleaning window seals and base boards. But organization is something that I enjoy. It makes me feel put together, makes things easy to find…see…and use!

In this case makeup and accessory organization. And the best part is these organizations ideas are fast, super easy, and all the components came from the Dollar Tree….gotta love that!

Scarf Hangers

SONY DSC SONY DSC SONY DSC

THINGS YOU NEED:

A ball of scarfs………….plastic hangers & shower curtain rings……………about 5 minutes!

TA-DA!

Makeup Brushes

SONY DSCSONY DSC  SONY DSC

THINGS YOU NEED:

Two small glass vases & two bags of accent stones…….makeup brushes……about 3 minutes!

And there you have it!

Quick and easy organizations.

It’s so nice to have things organized. When things have a place it’s so much fun and a lot easier to use what you have. For example. After I organized my scarfs…..I wore a different scarf the next three days. It was fun, I could see them….and therefore, wear them!

Kiss Me Lips

Kiss Me Lips

As Valentines day approaches….what better beauty tip than two super easy lip tips?!

Here’s what you need…

SONY DSC
For the first look, I’ll be using:

Revlon Just Bitten Lip Stain in Fate/Destin (As lip liner)

Milani Lip Stick in Barely There (53)

Victoria’s Secret Lip Gloss in Hot Cocoanut

SONY DSC SONY DSC SONY DSC SONY DSC

Start with bare lips………then add lip stain for liner………..then lip stick………and lip gloss

And there you have it. Luscious Lips. HA!

This look is neutral.

SONY DSC

For the next lip look follow the same steps with these products:

Revlon Just Bitten Lip Stain in Mystical/Mistique (For Lip Liner)

Ulta Lip Stick #220

Ulta Brilliant Color LiP Gloss #90

SONY DSC SONY DSC SONY DSC SONY DSC

Start with bare lip……..then add lip stain for liner…….then lip stick…….and lip gloss

This look gives you a touch of shimmer, and is a little more on the pink side.

SONY DSC

I hope that these lip combos are helpful. If you noticed in both look I used lips stain instead of lip liner. I have found that many lip liners give my lip line breakouts….(YUCK). So I choose to use lip stain for the most part instead. If you ever have these breakouts you should try it. Stains give you the benefit of a liner with out the oily, crayon like product.

Go get your pouty pout on!

Ribons & Pearls for Sweet Little Girls

SONY DSC

Tutus and pearls….so adorable. I couldn’t resist sharing these photos. I have tried to have a mini photo shoot with the girls each month that we have had them home…(minus the 2 months in the NICU) Although we did get some good pics there as well. The first few months of taking pictures I thought was so hard because they would just lay there…and cry for the most part. I always thought,….when they can sit, crawl, stand, walk….it will be so much easier to get good shots. HA! NOT TRUE! Now, for the most part, they crawl right into the camera, won’t sit still, and look every other way than at the camera. So…..as you can see, I am not professional. But someday I will cherish these memories even if the photo is of them chewing on everything.

10 Months and counting….fixing to be 11.

How the time flies. I am so very blessed to be a mother to these sweet babies.
